Highlights of DHZH Founder’s Day 2023
With the theme of Live Sustainably, Live Worldwise, the 2023 DHZH Founder’s Day took place on this year’s Earth Day. It was the first time in three years that we were able to welcome more friends from the local community to the campus, celebrating the Dulwich school tradition in the largest event of the year with our students, parents, staff and alumni.
A DAY GOING GREEN
As one of the core commitments at EiM, our Worldwise education weaves Sustainability and Global Citizenship Competencies into our learning activities and campus life, making it not just something we do, but part of who we are.
Leveraging the Founder’s Day event to further spread our GREEN efforts throughout the community, the whole DHZH campus was decorated with purposed-designed props, introducing the concepts of environmental protection and sustainability in a vivid way.
The iconic tree made of recycled cardboards with paper-folded ornaments displayed in the foyer delivered the messages to the guests when they arrived at our event.
The cubical boxes displaying the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in bilingual languages at the aisle that led the guests to the main event venue, have become part of the corridor decoration on the campus.
A JOURNEY APPRECIATING STUDENT ARTWORKS
All souvenirs of this year’s Founder’s Day are designed by DHZH students and produced with eco-friendly materials.
Upon arrival, guests received a booklet with event information, as well as the tasks to redeem more limited-edition souvenirs. Guests had to visit a certain number of stalls and took part in the activities, to collect the souvenirs. Green tote bag made of eco-friendly materials, a set of bamboo bookmarks, a silk cloth fan with different pattern designs on both sides, reusable silicon straw, and a set of stress balls…all five items were managed by the Marketing Collateral CCA from sketch to the final production.
The Fashion Show is the signature highlight of DHZH’s Founder’s Day event every year. Themed “Blooming Season”, this year’s runway took place on the track, presenting the looks with a closer audience. The DHZH designers aimed to deliver the metaphorical meaning of plant resurrection against human acts to the environment, with the contrast of gloom and bloom in different chapters in order. 90% of the materials we used are from leftovers in our school community and neighbourhood stores, for instance, the arrows and denims were made of leftover paper and fabrics.
A MEMORY ENJOYING PERFORMING ARTS
The Founder’s Day concert is the most anticipated opportunity of the academic year for all DHZH talents in performing arts to shine. This year, over 20 performances by students, staff and parents were featured throughout the whole event. The formats and styles varied from classical orchestra to rock bands, from Chinese traditional dance to K-Pop choreography, from Chinese opera to Western musical, demonstrating a community of genius calibre.
The musical performance by Y10 students was an impressive showcase talents too. It was the result of the arts collaboration project we piloted this year in DHZH. It was an interesting experience where students were engaged in art, music and drama lessons, improved their creativity, communication, teamwork and leadership skills, as well as gained confident and friendship.
Thank you for coming to the event. We cherish the memory we shared with you.
Hope you see you again on next year’s Founder’s Day.
