Austin Sweeney
Director of Sports and Enrichment
Originally from Ireland, Mr Sweeney grew up in North West London, UK. He completed his undergraduate degree in Sport, Health and Exercise at Durham University before going on to complete his PGCE at the University of East London. From 2006 to 2013, Mr Sweeny taught in London and enjoyed great success with teams in a variety of sports.
Mr Sweeney’s international teaching career has seen him live and work in Qatar (Dukhan), Tianjin, Zhuhai, Haikou, Hangzhou and now Hengqin. He was previously the school's (before “Dulwich Zhuhai”) Director of Sport from 2016-2021. This is his ninth consecutive year in China.
His greatest passion outside of school has been scuba diving. He will venture anywhere that has beautiful corals, great wildlife and a tropical climate. He is particularly interested in trying to minimise the amount of waste that goes into the ocean and replanting corals to encourage growth in our most precious ecosystems.
Mr Sweeney would like to improve his Chinese language skills.
