International Curriculum Adaptability Assessment
The assessment for new students is composed of the following sections:A. Comprehensive English Application (online test) - 60 minutes
B. English Writing - 30 minutes
C. English Interview - 10 minutes
D. Mathematics - 60 minutes
A. Comprehensive English Application (60 minutes)
Part One: Grammar and Vocabulary (30 minutes) This section will consist of approximately 30 questions, primarily assessing the student’s grasp of grammar and vocabulary. The assessment is divided into two parts; the first part involves multiple-choice questions based on a reading excerpt, requiring students to choose the most suitable answer from four options using contextual clues. The second part is an open-ended gap-fill exercise where students are expected to fill in blanks within provided texts based on their understanding of the context and comprehensive command of English.
Part Two: Listening and Reading (30 minutes) This section includes multiple-choice questions, consisting of about 15 items that test the student’s ability to listen to and comprehend short passages. Students will hear each recording twice before selecting the most suitable answer from four options.
B. English Writing (30 minutes)
The assessment requires students to write a descriptive essay expressing their personal views and opinions based on given prompts. The goal is to assess whether students can clearly articulate their perspectives as per the requirements of the prompt. (The composition should be between 120-200 words)
C. English Interview (10-15 minutes)
An examiner will engage in a roughly ten-minute-long discussion with each student. Through this interview, the examiner aims to better understand the student’s English proficiency and suitability for studying at their institution.
D. Mathematics (60 minutes)
The Mathematics Ability Assessment Test is divided into Parts A and B, totaling 60 minutes.
Students are expected to have knowledge and skills in solving problems related to
1. Numbers – types of numbers, powers and roots, indices, estimation, ratio, proportion, percentages, time, and money-related problems.
2. Algebra – arithmetic operation of algebraic fractions and simplifying factorising and solving linear and quadratic equations
3. Coordinate geometry – drawing linear equations, and finding the length, midpoint, and gradient of straight lines.
4. Geometry – calculate unknown angles using the geometric properties of angles and circles.
5. Mensuration – conversion between common units of measurement and finding the perimeter and area of common geometrical shapes
6. Trigonometry – solve problems using Pythagoras’s theorem and trigonometry
